A Guide to Tipping at Casinos

Tipping is part of the game at the casinos, but who should you tip and how much? Tipping etiquette is easy to master, and we'll show you how.

A large portion of casino staff depends on tips for their salary. When tipping is standard, such as at a restaurant, the waiter or dealer's salary is much lower than the standard minimum wage; somewhere around $2/hour.

A number of casino staff was polled, and some of the numbers they came up with was as follows:

Valet Parking: A good minimum tip is $2, a $5 is extremely nice, and anything over that is gravy for the valet parking attendant. The tip is usually given when the car is picked up, although some people give $1 and dropoff and $2 on pickup.

Bellhops: A tip between $2 and $4 per bag is standard, and a flat tip of $5 is fair.

Cocktail Waiters: The norm is $1 per drink, and there's no reason to go below that when the drinks are complimentary. Cocktail waitresses depend on tips for their salary in a big way.

Bartenders: Same as cocktail waitresses. The norm is $1 per drink.

Dealers: This usually depends on how much you win or lose. At low stakes poker games, you should toke the dealer $1 for every decent pot you drag. In bigger games, tipping more than that is up to the player. At the craps or blackjack table, dealers have received tips up to and over $1000 from the big winners. Tipping here is entirely up to you, but you should remember that tipping is standard.
