Massachusetts Casino Bill Defeated in House

The controversial Massachusetts casino bill was defeated in the house this Thursday by a 106-48 vote against. The bill would have made gambling online in the state of Massachusetts illegal and punishable by two years in prison and a $25,000 fine.

On Wednesday, the bill was put to a committee hearing, and it was rejected by a 10-8 vote. The bill may have been favored if the details were ironed out, but some were uncomfortable with persecuting online poker because of the double standard.

This hot button issue has been a center point of governor Deval Patrick's tenure in office. The bill was opposed on moral grounds by some, but on practical grounds by others. If Patrick and company ironed out the details, it's possible the bill might pass in another form.
