Jesse Green Wins at Heartland Poker Tour

The Heartland Poker Tour’s fourth season continued onto the Meskwaki Bingo Casino Hotel in Tama, Iowa over the weekend. There were189 total main event players. Over 700 players played in the HPT qualifiers for the opportunity to have a seat in the main event. Jesse Green, a local farmer, won the HPT title and a large first prize of $80,664.

Flaws of UIGEA Hot Topic in Congress

Congressman Barney Frank (D-MA), chairman of the House Committee on Financial Services, will hold a hearing in early April to explore the burden on U.S. financial institutions to comply with the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act of 2006 (UIGEA). The law was intended to deter illegal Internet gambling activity. Meanwhile, support for legislation that would regulate Internet gambling continues to gain momentum as Congressman George Miller (D-CA), one of the most influential members of Congress, signed on last week as a co-sponsor of the bill introduced by Congressman Frank.

PPA Adds New Policy Expert

Drew Lesofski, former senior federal policy adviser from Washington DC, has joined the PPA as director of Grassroots and External Affairs. His previous position under Nevada Governor Jim Gibbons had him dealing with a variety of issues, such as immigration, health care, education and gaming. This is not his first time working with a grassroots political organization, having worked and volunteered with a number of local, state and federal campaigns prior to his tenure in Washington. ' "As we get closer to reaching the million-member milestone, it is more important than ever for PPA to find new ways to energize and mobilize our members, Drew's policy and political campaign experience will be an asset to PPA as we further refine and augment our grassroots program."
